CKD (Completely Knocked Down) means the TV is shipped as separate parts — panel, mainboard, power board, backlight, plastic housing, cables, screws — and fully assembled at the destination. SKD (Semi Knocked Down) means partially pre-assembled modules that only need final assembly.
For African importers, SKD is usually the best starting point: minimal equipment and workers needed, while still qualifying for lower "parts" import duty in most countries.
Finished TVs attract high import duty (25-35% in many African countries), while TV parts/kits are often taxed at 5-15%. Local assembly also creates jobs, which some governments reward with additional incentives.
Local assembly lets distributors offer the most demanded sizes — 32 inch and 43 inch — at prices that compete with used imported TVs, the dominant alternative in many markets.
A typical kit includes: LED panel (32/43/50/55/65 inch), mainboard (with DVB-T2/S2 or Android smart options), power board, backlight strips, speakers, IR receiver, plastic or metal housing, remote control, cables, screws, and user manual. Mainboards can be customized with local language OSD and your brand boot logo.
We provide assembly manuals, video guidance and engineer support. A small workshop with 5-10 workers can assemble 200-500 TVs per day.
1) Choose 1-2 sizes to start (32" and 43" are the volume sellers). 2) Order a sample kit and assemble it. 3) Register your local brand and confirm duty rates for parts vs finished TVs with your customs broker. 4) Set up a small assembly line (tables, screwdrivers, ESD protection). 5) Order the first container — a 40HQ container holds roughly 2,000-3,000 kits depending on size.
